Nomenus Quarterly: 12
A M E R I C A
by Erik Madigan Heck
Erik with Carmen Dell' Orefice/FORD for NQ: 12
The twelfth edition of Nomenus Quarterly is now available
online. As opposed to a traditional (though the works
themselves have never been showcased in a traditional media expected of
an online publication focusing on fashion and beauty), Nomenus
Quarterly 12: AMERICA seeks to re-engage the viewer into yet
another one of Heck's historically endowed exercises in revealing
narrative and accessing the places from which our relative notions on
the aforementioned subjects stem. I myself am a fan of American history -
particularly the rocket state - its familial constructions, quirky literature, and
the technocratic lifestyle of Cold War Americana. Heck's seminal resurrection of these
seemingly dead memories is provocative - and intellectually
compelling as always. Behold - America and its macabre yet beatific
global reality and macro-identity analyses. These are sentiments often
overwhelmingly articulated with crass, pessimistic discernment but Heck again proves a perspicacious curator and formidable talent - getting at the crux of American
cultural identity; revealing its beauty, its grotesque, and the adjudicated
debates between the two.
